Newegg Survey Reveals Trends and Must-Haves for the Man Cave

"Man Cave Madness" Sweepstakes Launches with More Than $30,000 in Prizes

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/18/13 -- Newegg Inc., the leading electronics-focused e-retailer in the United States, today announced findings from its man cave survey in conjunction with the launch of its "Man Cave Madness" sweepstakes. Just in time for the start of the NCAA basketball tournament, the sweepstakes features more than $30,000 in prizes, including many must-have items to outfit a man cave mentioned in Newegg's recent survey findings.

Man caves continue to be a growing trend with more and more consumers carving out their own dedicated space to relax, watch sports and hang out with friends. Newegg surveyed 3,471 participants in its research to better understand the components and the utility of man caves.

Survey findings include:

  • 54 percent of respondents currently have a man cave in their household.
  • The top four must-have items for a man cave are: a flat screen television (84 percent), surround sound system (72 percent), computer (69 percent) and video games (61 percent).
  • A man cave is a room that both genders can enjoy -- 89 percent surveyed say they would welcome the opposite sex in their man cave.
  • When asked what special guest respondents would most like to visit their man cave, 26 percent answered a "supermodel," with "tech guru" being the next popular choice at 23 percent.
  • 32 percent of those surveyed would choose a night in the man cave over a date with their significant other.

"The Big Dance (the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship) is the perfect reason to get together and watch the games in a properly decked out man cave," said Jacob Shin, vice president of audience acquisition at Newegg. "Newegg has everything consumers need to create the ultimate man cave from televisions and home audio systems to recliners and sports memorabilia. We're also excited to give our customers the chance to win some great gadgets this year with our 'Man Cave Madness' sweepstakes."
